For Ottawa, Canada area writers of all kinds. In conjunction with a grant from the Ottawa Wave Makers, Write Along Radio is very excited to be producing an episode of our podcast for writers entitled Home at Sea: Sentimental Stories from an Ocean in Crisis. AND we are putting out a call for submissions to the Ottawa, Canada writing community. The focus of this project is to raise awareness of an ocean in need, by simply telling our stories and relating this big idea to personal experience. If accepted, writers will receive paid compensation for their work of 150$/piece. Please share the news to other Ottawa Writers!
What are we looking for? Writing between 300-1000 words . . .
Basically, we want you to make us feel we are there, experiencing what the ocean means to you first hand. This project is to have a sense of personalization and sentimentality. Write whatever that means to you. Influences we are currently pulling from include Ernest Hemingway, Kate Chopin, Lucy Maud Montgomery, Robert Service, Stacey Atkinson, etc. See submission guidelines below and please submit accordingly.
Short micro stories or ‘scenes’ from longer works that evoke an element of connection to the ocean; Vivid descriptions or stream of consciousness– think of it as artwork through words that evoke a sense of place and connection; Poetic prose; Spoken word poetry (writer must be willing to record their poem to be shared via our program, and through our partners) – as a submission we would accept an audio clip with a written transcript; Blog posts; Novel Excerpts so long as they can stand on their own and you hold all rights. Etc.
Very Important Submission Guidelines:
Send submissions to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject heading: Home at Sea. Please send no more than 2 submissions per person.
In the body of the email, please include in this order:
Your name, Your address (must be in the Ottawa, Mississippi mills or Gatineau area), Title of your work, Confirmation that you have the right to share/distribute this work, and the work has not been previously published elsewhere (not including self-publication or blogging where you hold all rights). And your submission text IN THE BODY OF THE EMAIL – not as an attachment. Please link any audio for spoken poetry.
Simultaneous submissions are okay, but let us know immediately if your piece is picked up elsewhere.
The writer must own the copyright and have full rights for distribution, and in doing so, if selected for inclusion, would give this project and those connected (Catherine Brunelle, Write Along Radio, Ottawa Wave Makers, Hub Ottawa, and the World Wildlife Foundation Canada) permission to share, practice, publish, translate, adapt, broadcast, reproduce, or use the intellectual property for both promotional and non-commercial purposes, (including both written and audio format), and with no further compensation other than the initial payment.
